About Studio Upstairs
Yo! Thanks for visiting Studio Upstairs. I’m all about sitting in front of the tube or the big screen and taking in some good performances. I’ve spent most of my adult life criticizing movies and TV Series’, and really enjoy watching great films. I’ve been fortunate to be able to do this because my wife also enjoys watching a ton of TV and movies, and talking about them after the fact.
I work for a great company currently (Thanks Quicken Loans!), and travel a lot, so I spend a lot of my travel time watching television.
We spend approximately 20 hours a week watching either movies or specific Series. You name it, we’ve probably seen it, although I have to clarify that I’m only 40 years old, so if you are talking about a movie that was made before the 80’s, those titles are a bit more obscure to me. My Dad consistently teases me that I can’t be a good movie critic without seeing some of the great movies of the 70’s and before. I’ve seen most of them, I say, but he doesn’t care. He’s a huge John Wayne fan, and has seen all of the old James Bond movies, and lives and dies by movies of yesteryear.
Some of the best television that I think has ever existed has come in the past 10 years. TV shows like the Soprano’s, The Wire, Game of Thrones, etc. I want to get into the meat and potatoes of every character, and there are some TV shows that are all about popular culture, which I could really care less for.
You may not agree with my opinions on television and movies, and that’s okay, but if you don’t agree, you better be ready to support your argument, as I love to get into conversations about why I think a certain show or movie is good or bad. Anybody can say that they do or don’t like something, but I like to understand why. Some people call that annoying, and some people call it good conversation skills. I call it Interesting!
What are your favorite Television shows? What are your favorite movies? Why?
